Biting through the Cains (AU, Athos/d'Artagnan, Porthos/Aramis)

Athos is a Musketeer, the best swordsman in the King's service, a natural leader, but he stands a man alone even amongst his fellow Musketeers, trusting no one save his Captain. This goes on for a few years before Treville decides to entrust a new and promising young recruit by the name of d'Artagnan training and mentoring to Athos, who is less then thrilled at first. Its not long after that the Cardinal orders Treville to assign some Musketeers to guard and bring a particularly dangerous criminal back to Paris.

Needless to say, Athos and d'Art are one of a handful sent out to carry out the seemingly simple task. But as soon as Athos lays eyes upon the large, immensely strong and angry prisoner bound in many thick heavy chains by the name of Porthos, he finds that this will be anything but simple. And soon finds out just why the Cardinal had Treville send in Musketeers to do this, since all the previous Red Guards and soldiers had tried failed or were killed while the prisoner had almost escaped several times. Because its not just their heavily chained prisoner they need to worry about, but also his lithe sharp-shooting and ruthless companion(lover) by the name of Aramis who will do anything to rescue Porthos. (remember those times in the show when Aramis gets suddenly scary to whoever gets in his way or sees as a threat to Porthos? Now imagine that ten times worse and with him not being a Musketeer and not knowing either Athos or d'Art!) The Red Guards having learned the hard way to try and not insult or hurt the prisoner when out in the open where unseen dark eyes might see, otherwise a musket ball just might blow a sudden hole in that offending hand... or head.

Athos finds himself torn, for it becomes clear very quickly that Porthos is a good man despite what he is accused of and growing up on the streets, there's something about him, they click... But Porthos is a criminal and its Athos duty as a Musketeer and to the law to take the prisoner back to Paris to face the Cardinal's justice. So now he's trying to keep an eye on young d'Art as he and the other Musketeers transport their prisoner back to Paris which will take several days, not to mention trying to keep d'Art and himself alive. None of them even able to sleep lest they find a knife at their throat since Aramis is all but hunting them through the country side, picking them off one by one, and will do anything in his power to free Porthos.

Its up to whoever picks up this prompt if Porthos and Aramis are really criminals or have been framed for crimes they did not commit. Happy endings, but I want Athos and d'Art faced with a so very pretty and lithe Aramis who is scary as F@ck! with Porthos being the rather calm and rational one.
