D'Artagnan was bullied mercilessly in Gascony, so when offered the chance to stay in Paris, he took it without a second thought.

He's found amazing friends in Porthos and Aramis, and a possible romance with Athos. His bully, a Baron's first son, starts apprenticing with the musketeers, too, however. D'Artagnan succumbs to the bullying again, but Porthos, Athos, and Aramis have something to say about that.
