Trying to find a story I read a while ago

From: (Anonymous)
Sorry if this is not something I’m supposed to post.

My search skills have failed me, not that they have ever been that great.

A small detail about it has been niggling at me, if I’m even remembering it right.

Something about Aramis not always eating, so Athos tries to make sure no one steals his food. And maybe a bit about him eating an apple in front of Treville when he wasn’t supposed to be, but Treville let it go? (or that could be from a completely different story, idk).

Any help in locating this would be greatly appreciated, and will save what is left of my sanity, if that’s even possible at this stage.

Posting un-anon for contacting reasons. I hope it's okay to ask this on here: I'm looking for an Englisch native speaker to be a spell & grammar beta for a couple of fics of mine.

One's a kinkmeme fill I'd like to clean up for AO3 (was called "The Cat Has Nine Tails" on the meme. Aramis angst and torture, about 16k words) and the other, more important one's a post Savoy fic that hasn't previously been posted and focuses heavily on Aramis coping with his trauma and Treville's guilt over the whole thing (a monster of about 25k words). I'd love to post the latter before the upcoming holidays so if anyone's got a bit of time to beta over the next couple of days it would be greatly appreciated (I could also offer my icon making skills, or, should you like the writing, another fill?).

I've already had both fics looked over by someone to check for canon compliance and general plot/logic issues, but as they're ESL as well I'd love a second opinion just for SpaG. :) (but if you have suggestions to improve the content I'll take them as well. No kid gloves needed. How else am I going to improve?)

If you wanna know what you're getting yourself into you can find some of my previous fics over on AO3: http://archiveofourown.org/users/grabmotte/pseuds/grabmotte/works?fandom_id=1302228

Sorry to bother, but I don't know of another place to post this(community on ff.net isn't that big yet...yet)

Anyway, I can't find this fic anywhere, and I know I didn't dream it(hope so at any rate). I believe it was on ff.net, and it dealt with Athos and the others not reacting well to D'art knowing Milady. They attacked him, and injured him badly. I remember him going back to his room at the garrison and doing his own stitches? and collapsing back in bed. Then the others, finally snap out of it and go make sure he's all right, and tend to his wounds, etc. I remember them also seeing blood on his door or wall outside.

It wasn't Betrayal or Draw Your Swords(just re-read those). I could have sworn it was only a two-shot, but I could be wrong.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Does anyone else really want to kick the shit out of Louis?.

For the love of God the man is Thirty odd and can`t take responsibility for his own actions?, childish, cowardly, petulant, and pathetic!.

God I want to wring his neck!, if I were a Musketeer I`d have run the fucker through!, it`s not like anyone would have missed him!.

Hi everyone-- wow, the Discussion Post has been quiet lately!

If anyone is still around, I would love to toss around some ideas that might help me out of the corner I've plotted myself into. Here's the scenario:

Third story in an AU trilogy of book!verse novels. The entire thing is strictly d'Artagnan POV and I'm not willing to change that, at this late date.

Louis and Anne were overthrown by Louis' brother Gaston, and fled into hiding with Treville and some loyal musketeers. Louis is dead now, but Anne was pregnant with his child when he died and has since given birth, so there is a Rightful Heir to return to the throne.

In the mean time, Gaston married Isabella of Savoy to forge ties with Spain, but once Isabella gave birth to a boy, Spanish agents promptly assassinated Gaston so that they could have an infant puppet ruler on the French throne. Treville knows they have to get the baby off the throne first, in order to get Queen Anne and her son installed without massive military battles and bloodshed. He's not about to kill an infant, no matter what, so he has settled on a kidnapping plot instead.

Since no one in Paris knows d'Artagnan (who joined the musketeers during Anne's exile), d'Artagnan will be installed in a position within the palace as a spy. He is posing as Constance's husband. (Bonacieux is dead, btw.) Constance has a position as a lady's maid within the palace.

Now, my question is, what type of position might d'Artagnan reasonably hold that would allow him to be inside the palace and have occasional contact with the important people within? "Guard" is the obvious solution to the plot problem, but I am highly skeptical that being "married" to a lady's maid and being good with a sword would be sufficient qualification to secure palace duty right off the bat.

I thought about putting him in the stables, but then it turns into "Constance telling d'Artagnan about all the exciting stuff going on in the palace so that the readers know what's going on", and that sounds dreadfully tedious to me.

So, are there any jobs in the palace that someone might get on the strength of their wife's recommendation, which would allow my POV character to actually be where the action is? I have this mental picture of d'Artagnan hanging garish fleur-de-lys wallpaper in the royal nursery, and I'm really hoping for something a bit less lame than that.

Any help or ideas much appreciated!

Porthos as rich as Athos now?

SPOILER!

After the revelations of the last episode does this mean that after Porthos' dad dies he will have a Noble standing similar to Athos? And is he now one of the 'wealthier' of our four Musketeers thanks to his dead-beat dad and what De Foix willed to him?

Guess he's not going to be needing to seduce anymore lonely widows for extra cash anymore.

Re: Porthos as rich as Athos now?

From: (Anonymous)
Well, the estate looked pretty dusty and decrepit, and I doubt Belgard is going to pay Porthos an allowance now that Porthos has made it clear he won't be used by him. So he's most likely not seeing any of the family money until Belgard kicks the bucket. But since Belgard claims the marriage between him and Marie-Cessette was legal Porthos stands to inherit the title of Marquis de Belgard and whatever might still be connected to that title. But from the looks of it there might be some debts to be inherited as well.

As how this relates to Athos: a Marquis is a bit more important than a Comte, but only in theory. Back in 17th century France (unlike in most of the rest of Europe at the time which was much more obsessed with bloodlines) if you were noble it didn't matter how old your family was or how big your title, what mattered was how fashionable and influential you were - mostly through money. Porthos, being mixed race, might either have it pretty hard in that regard once he takes the title, or easy (because he's a bit scandalous, and people love scandalous!)

Not sure if that's what you wanted to know, but now you do.

Fannon and Cannon

From: (Anonymous)
No spoilers!

But after watching the last episode of this season, I can't help but think that all the slash-fans of the main slash-ships for this show like Portamis, Athos/d'art, and even Richelieu/Treville will be a bit disappointed.

So I was wondering if Season 2 (and after ?) is the point in the Musketeer fandom where we see a big shift in the coming fanfic of 'fandom' vs 'cannon'.

Re: Fannon and Cannon = Possible Spoilers

From: (Anonymous)
Without going into too much detail, I thought the finale was as slashy as hell in all directions, from Athos/Treville to Athos/Aramis.

But then I've never seen any point whatsoever in sticking to canon for writing. It's there to be explored, not slavishly adhered to.

What matters most to me is the quality of the writing in any given fic, not what ship is being sailed. Good writing can sell me tickets on any particular ship, bad writing will cause me to man the lifeboats even when it's a ship I like in theory.

And what I'd like to see most is more good writing.

Oh, and this meme needs to get a bit more lively! that wouldn't hurt. But it seems like it's been pretty much ignored by both the mod and the fans all series, which is a shame. So thanks for posting something, even if I'm not wholly clear what point, if any, you're trying to make.

Angst or Torture Porn

When does a dark or angsty fic start to just fall into 'Torture-porn'?

Re: Angst or Torture Porn

Date: 2015-04-21 02:46 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
In my opinion the dividing line is whether or not we learn anything about the characters as a result.

I think the best fic is almost character work, whether that be porn, plot fic, ship fic or whatever - even if it has another primary purpose, I want to learn about the characters as I go. Personally I rarely enjoy h/c or injury fic, and I can't decide whether that makes me a good or bad person to weigh in, but I'm leaning towards 'good' as it means I can say what works for me and what doesn't.

As a reader I'll tolerate a fair bit if it's emotionally compelling, which for me normally means I'm learning something about the characters involved and how they relate to each other. If the fic is just about making the characters suffer, I'll click off.

And one additional point: I'd want to see a treatment of the emotional and character content that's equal to the type and level of suffering undergone. Deep wounds can't be healed in a day, and if a writer's going deep I'd want them to see it through, if that makes sense. If unsure, ask yourself if you can achieve the same effect on the characters by toning down the suffering.

Hope this is some useful food for thought!

Season 3 Speculation?

From: (Anonymous)
For what it's worth, I reckon:

- the Duke of Buckingham will be an important player (who needs historical accuracy?)

- Louis might be dead :-(

- Aramis will have joined the Jesuits and be lurking in shadowy corners doing Mysterious Stuff on their behalf.

- no kids for Mr and Mrs d'Artagnan.

I think if Buckingham was going to feature, we would have heard about it by now.

I agree about no kids. I think that addition would cramp their style rather too much.

I could get behind the Spy-Aramis theory.

I've noticed in the pics where it looks like they're re-uniting with Aramis, that they're in their old uniforms.

So my theory is they get him out of the monastery (looks like they rescue him, or it's a rescue of some sort because of the pic with that bump on his head) and then head off to war. Because the other pics have them in their new uniforms, including Aramis.

But I think we're not getting full war Armor pics for Aramis because the powers either want to keep that on the down-low, or he is off on another mission/spy mission.

Race/ethnicity question

Date: 2015-10-06 03:35 am (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
So I'm not quite done with the second season yet (just discovered the show), but I've noticed quite a bit of emphasis about Porthos being half-black. Though he doesn't seem to face any discrimination among the Musketeers themselves, he has been warned by others that he'll never really be seen as a Frenchman (even though that's what he considers himself) because to them - with his color - he'll always be foreign.

So my question is - what about d'Artagnan??? I mean, dude - he's brown too. There's no way the show is pretending he's a white guy, is there? It must get mentioned at least once, given the way they mention Porthos, right? Did I miss it? Or maybe it's... in the last couple episodes of season 2? (the only once I haven't seen yet?)

It just seems a little ridiculous that no one would mention d'Artagnan's ethnicity when he is clearly not white - while they seem to mention Porthos' quite a bit.

What am I missing here?

Re: Race/ethnicity question

Date: 2015-10-06 02:24 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
The actor who plays d'Artagnan is British-born of Italian parents and Italians are generally considered white-European, even though some of them are slightly tanned, When Luke was in the teen drama Skins, he was slightly tanned at the side of the other characters but not really brown in the way that black and asian people are, so I can understand why many viewers and the show don't regard him in the same way as Porthos.

I finally got round to watching and am all excited and stuff! Because they're all so awesome! And I may have a Porthos Thing. It may be quite have. And I binge watched two series and now have to waaaait :( so do people still hang out here? Maybe I'll go through the old memes and fill things. Hmmm. I just want to share my love of Porthos. He's so big and looks so warm and has a nice smile. I just want him cuddling with Aramis and wearing spotty socks! Is that too much to ask?

Looking for a fic

Date: 2017-01-11 09:15 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
I don't know where else to share this(since there is no fic finder anywhere)

I was reading "The Abandoned House" on ff.net and I suddenly recalled a story of something similar.

The quartet had stopped at a farm on their way home. There was a woman(with missing/deceased children?) and she had taken a liking to D'artagnan. And she really didn't want him to leave. When they eventually escape, the house turns out to be really old and abandoned.

If anyone recalls this story or something similar please let me know! Thank you :)
