FILL:no more, no less 3/? Aramis/Treville (warnings for drug use and dub-con)Re: Cardinal's
Date: 2014-04-24 07:14 am (UTC)"The Change," Aramis choked out. "The Cardinal gave me The Change."
Treville stared, convinced he must have misheard. Surely even Richelieu would not stoop so low. "Say that again? Aramis, what did he give you?"
Aramis raised his head, his eyes were clouded with despair. "The Change," he repeated, softly. He whimpered and hunched over again, wrapping his arms around his middle.
Treville decided then it was time to shed his disbelief and act. "Come on, let's get you off the floor." He gave Aramis his chair and poured a drink, crouching beside him to steady the cup as Aramis took cautious sips. "How long ago?"
Aramis shook his head. "I don't know. Hours, maybe? I can feel it. My skin feels too tight. Too hot. Everything feels wrong."
"What do you want me to do? I can fetch Athos, or Porthos?"
Aramis shook his head. "No, no. Please. I can't see them. Not like this."
"All right, not them." Treville hesitated. "Then would you accept my help?"
Aramis stared at him; then he shook his head. "I couldn't ask that of you."
"Is it me you're objecting to, or merely the idea that I might not want to do this?"
Aramis stared down at his hands and didn't answer.
"Because, I think I should probably say, if we can put aside the less than favorable circumstances for a moment, it wouldn't exactly be a hardship."
Aramis' head snapped up.
One corner of Treville's mouth quirked upwards. "What? I'm not blind. And you're-" He searched for the right word, pushing an unruly strand of hair back from Aramis' face. He had to swallow hard when the man subconsciously leaned into his touch. "You're beautiful," he finished, honestly.
A dull flush disappeared down the collar of Aramis' shirt, but he didn't look away. "Then you wanted me?" he asked, bluntly. "I mean, before. Not just because of this?
Treville decided such courage merited an equivalent response. "I found you desirable, yes. And I would consider it an honor if you would accept me. So, do you?"
Aramis set the cup down on the desk and brought his hand up to Treville's cheek. Treville let himself be guided forward into a kiss that would have been chaste, if Aramis hadn't stiffened and whimpered, pressing forward to seek more. Treville allowed it, parting his lips to let the younger man steal a taste.
When Aramis drew back, he looked shaky but determined. "I think perhaps there is a reason I came here."
Treville gave him a faint smile and nodded. "Come with me." He stood and held out his hand. Aramis took it and was led through into an adjoining room, where there was a bed against the far wall. "Some nights I sleep here," Treville explained.
Aramis didn't seem to know quite how to proceed, he kept plucking at his sleeves as though they bothered him.
Treville cleared his throat. "Do you want to take that off?"
"It feels like it itches," said Aramis, a touch sheepishly.
"Then take it off," Treville repeated, calmly.
Aramis slowly drew his shirt over his head. He bundled it up in his hands, apparently uncertain where put it down. Treville stepped forward and took it off him, throwing it onto a chair in the corner.
"Better?"
Aramis nodded.
Treville decided he should probably ask. "Have you lain with a man before?"
Aramis gave an awkward shrug and dropped his chin. "Never quite like this."
Treville took that to mean Aramis had probably indulged in a little awkward fumbling in his youth, or exchanged a few indiscreet touches with his fellow soldiers. Still, he would rather have the clairfication. What happened next was a perfect example of why. He hooked a finger under Aramis' chin, meaning to draw his gaze back up, but Aramis flinched back so violently he almost fell.
"Sorry, sorry. It's just... He did that." Aramis fluttered his fingers in the vicinity of his throat. "Before. When he made me take..." He stopped, his voice choked.
"Sit down," Treville ordered, guiding the younger man to the edge of the bed. While Aramis sat, he chose to remain standing. "Look, once this starts it's going to get intense fairly quickly. I need to now if we're going to have a problem with anything."
Aramis ran his fingers through his hair, sending it into further disarray. "No... I mean, I don't know." He exhaled in frustration. "God, I can't think."
"There's not very much point in my asking what you like." Treville tried to be tactful. "Because everything is going to be very different."
Aramis' gaze was fixed on a point on the floor. "I know. People who take obéissante talk about how it changes everything." He turned to look at Treville. "But that's one night. A choice. A taste of another life. I have to live like this forever."
Treville could think of nothing to say. A loud pounding on the door of his office made him curse. The voice that accompanied it brought a panicked looking Aramis to his feet. Treville pushed him back down with a hand on his shoulder. "Stay here. I'll sort this." He walked back through to the main room, reaching the door as it shook once more with the force of the fist striking it.
"Cap-" Athos broke off abruptly as the door swung open. He dropped his hand to his side. "Sir."
Porthos loomed at his shoulder, giving the appearance of being a hairs breadth from charging into the room. D'Artangan stood a little further back, no less concerned and antsy.
"How can I help you, gentlemen?"
There was a slightly awkward pause.
Needless to say, the other two left it to Athos to explain. "I'm sorry, sir. But we were told that Aramis was here."
Treville took a deep breath and hoped that this wasn't about to get messy. "He is."
Porthos rocked forward on the balls of his feet. D'Artagnan's gaze darted between his friends, waiting to follow their lead.
Athos tilted his head and looked askance at his Captain. "Sir?"
"I'll explain." He looked over Athos' shoulder. "You two can wait down stairs." Porthos glowered, clearly unhappy at being dismissed. Still, he obeyed; tugging the younger man along with him when it looked like d'Artagnan wanted to protest. To his credit, Athos stood waiting patiently, although Treville could see what it was costing him to keep silent. He wondered how to even begin to explain. "He's not hurt, exactly." That apparently, was not the right way to start. Athos stiffened and tried to look past Treville into the room beyond. "Athos, listen to me. There's no easy way to say this. He has been given The Change."
Treville saw the instant the shock of it hit before the shutters came down and Athos was once again the consummate soldier.
"How?" He demanded.
The last thing Treville needed right now was for these three to go after the Cardinal. He shook his head. "We can discuss that later. Right now I need you to take care of things for me. If any one asks, say I'm unwell. No one gets up these stairs. Got that?"
"Not even the Cardinal?"
One of these days, Treville mused, Athos was going to cut himself on that sharp mind of his. He smiled grimly. "In the very unlikely event that the Cardinal should choose to enter this courtyard. No, not even him. I don't care what excuse you use. You can tell him the stairs have wood worm if you have to."
The curve of Athos' mouth held little humour. "Understood." His expression turned pensive. "And you'll look after Aramis?"
"I will."
Athos relaxed slightly and inclined his head in respect; he turned to go and had reached the end of the balcony when he looked back. "Tell him this changes nothing. We expect to see him later."
Treville nodded and smiled to himself; these men were well named the Inseparables.
