Well, I wrote in a rustle and a creak that might turn into an inadvertent eavesdropper, out for a midnight snack and getting an unexpected earful. But if so, how ^would they react?
Hmm. D'Artagnan might freeze and then pretend he didn’t hear it. I suspect Athos would get very saturnine and then say something elliptical and obscure while sparring and discussing fencing techniques. Porthos would curse him out - a lot - while pulling him into a crushing hug and letting him cry on his shoulder (and that would still be painful because, as of s3, Aramis loves Porthos, but he is never going to love Porthos ^best).
Worst case would be one of the cadets, too rattled to keep entirely quiet about it...
