Welcome to the BBC The Musketeers kink meme
The lowdown: You post your prompt, anon or not. Someone else will hopefully fill it (also anon or not). Not for profit, just for fun. And in this case, for king and country.
Anon is on, IP logging is off.
Rules:
No wank
No kink-shaming
Be respectful to everyone
The mod is not your babysitter
Use the warnings
Mandatory trigger warnings/warnings for both prompts and fills:
non-con/dub-con
abuse (physical and mental)
issues such as racism, sexism, homo-/trans-/-bi-/ace-phobia etc
character death
suicide
self-harm
eating disorders
extreme physical or mental illness
substance abuse (alcohol, drugs, medication)
bullying
gore and horror
If this list misses anything, do let me know, though please understand that if absolutely everything is added this list will never end.
You are encouraged and advised to add additional warnings at your own discretion.
Please make use of the subject line.
If your prompt alludes to the book or any of the other adaptations, please let us know which one.
Lastly, prompt freezes (which I have to say I’m really not fond of) etc will be at the mod’s discretion. I will decide on a prompt cut-off point for prompt posts once I know how fast the meme moves.
Rule addition: No more discussions on the prompt post. If you want to discuss something, we have a discussion post. If you want to wank about a prompt, that's not what the discussion post is for. That's what your scroll bar and that little red x in the top corner of your browser is for.

Any Pairing

Date: 2014-03-09 09:49 pm (UTC)...Then I started wondering about how the soul mate name thing would work since at least one of the three of the musketeers (and all three, if you hold to that aspect of book canon) are living under assumed names.
...THEN I saw the comment above about gloves, which leads to all sorts of
kinkypossibilities.AND NOW I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS.

Date: 2014-03-09 11:23 pm (UTC)I WILL FAIL TO WRITETO ADD TO MY LIST!"But, not gonna lie, I'm sort of pleased that someone is interested. Because I cannot shake this idea. XD
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 01:05 am (UTC)So basically lots of flail and encouragement! And the fact that I can't kick the mental image of Porthos going '.....your name is Rene??' like he can't decide whether to laugh at Aramis or snog him.
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 02:08 am (UTC)(Also, OMG these tropes, yesssss... In RL? I'm all, "Soul mates?? PSHAW." In fic? Particularly when the "written on [the body]" cliche is invoked? I am all over that.)
I like flail and encouragement! :D And I am entertained by your scenario. Though I admittedly had something a bit different in mind. More like:
Aramis, staring at Porthos in shock after the pieces finally snap into place, probably while Porthos is occupied with something else. Then he finally manages to force the word, "Isaac?" from his lips.
And Porthos freezes, going entirely still for a few long moments (in which Aramis is quietly panicking). Without turning around, in a voice that's trying very hard to be light and not shake Porthos asks, "So are you Olivier or Rene?"
And Aramis just starts laughing, frantic and utterly relieved, and chokes out, "Rene. I'm Rene."
And then he throws himself at Porthos, without doubting that he'll be caught. And he is. And it's a very long time before either of them let go.
(OMG THIS PROMPT)
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 02:18 am (UTC)I love panicking Aramis, and I adore how much emotion you got into that one tiny snippet. Porthos would hug him SO HARD.
I'm stuck on Athos, though, because he clearly did love Milady once- can soulmates change? Did he discover another name, on her body, instead of the fleur de lys?
And yet I want him to be part of the happy OT3, because he needs all the love too.
But I love your Porthos and Aramis so much. ♥
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 02:27 am (UTC)My God, yes. Porthos would just...grab hold and not let go. (Certainly not before Aramis stopped shaking.) If I've got this figured right, they'd have been living with this for all of their lives. I'm completely sure that Aramis, at least, has more than once thought of how perfect it would be if his two brothers-in-arms were the soul mates whose names were inscribed on his hand. Learning it's at least half true would be equal parts terrifying and perfect.
Oh, Athos is definitely part of the OT3 because I have a deep, abiding love of the three of them together and OMG yes, Athos needs all the love, particularly this version of him. I actually have an idea for how to handle the thing with Milady. And part of me is excited to blather it all over the meme, while the other part feels bad about what would be a major spoiler? (Well, not so much, probably. Given that we all know it didn't end well.) But I kind of fail at writing epic ideas, so I'll totally tell you if you want. XD
Thank you! I am ridiculously delighted to hear that. <3
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 03:06 am (UTC)Giant Porthos-hugs are going to be one of Aramis' favourite things in the world, aren't they? The intensity of their fear and connection makes the whole trope even better.
Yay OT3~~ If you want to blather about Athos without spoiling the meme, this is who I am, feel free to pester me? I'm happy to listen/help/squee lots and lots. XD

Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 02:49 am (UTC)Also, I think that d'Artagnan might be Constance's soulmate. She married her husband because he lost his soulmate when he was young and was now just looking for a suitable wife. I think he even told her so outright before they got married, possibly if/when she admitted that he wasn't hers. She hadn't met her soulmate and needed a good match for a husband. Add tension, some angst, and mix well when d'Artagnan shows up - and they fail to openly acknowledge each other, but he comes to stay as their lodger anyhow - and sparks fly.
(Ahahahahaha! YES. Yes, he definitely DID.)
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 03:22 am (UTC)Anne and Louis aren't soulmates, of course, because being royalty sucks and you get married off for political purposes no matter whose name is on you. Sometimes you get lucky, and your soulmate happens to be the political match, but most of the time love is for commoners.
(I just want 100000 words of world building and wacky soulmate hijinks and miscommunication in this universe. And I don't even like soulmates that much, wtf.)
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 04:14 am (UTC)Here was my reply:
Yeah, it kind of does. Also, the fact that the three of them make such a complete unit on their own. Which leads neatly into why I ship the OT3 so damn hard. XD Thanks! I thought it would be a neat addition to the verse, and adds an extra layer to her (clearly not love-based) marriage and the inescapable draw to d'Artagnan. (Oh. Oh, wow. You're so very right about that!)
Now here's hoping I managed to get THIS posted in the right place!
Re: Any Pairing
Date: 2014-03-10 04:16 am (UTC)The rest of my reply:
Sad, but true. The best that royalty can usually hope for is that their soulmate will be found somewhere amongst the nobility from which it would be feasible to take a lover. Also, because commoners rarely get into close enough proximity to the king/queen to be recognized.
(That's why I don't understand why this prompt has latched onto my brain like this! I mean, of all things, a soulmate prompt?? Which isn't to say that I'm not enjoying the hell out of brainstorming for it. XD I suck at humour and hijinks - though I do enjoy it when someone else manages to do it well - but I'll totally help with the thousands of words of worldbuilding part!)

Date: 2014-03-10 05:19 am (UTC)I can see it now. It's against the norm to have more than one name so A/A/P carry on and ignore the names, especially Athos. He loves Milady so he would want to be all gentlemanly, names be damned, but Thomas would be all "you can't defy destiny"
And then everything goes to hell and Athos blames the soul marks so he just ties a piece of cloth around his hand and pretends they aren't there.
SOMEONE NEEDS TO WRITE THIS.

Date: 2014-03-10 04:30 am (UTC)I thought this would get some attention, but I seem to have underestimated how much this fandom plots things out. Maybe leaving it this vague was too much, but all these points and ideas are fabulous. Just leaving this comment to say I love you all and enjoy all your various takes on what could be.
