Moiralligence

From: (Anonymous)
D--> Does anyone here read Homestuck?
D--> Because the pale dynamic of the group is so STRONG!
D--> Aramis <> Porthos
D--> Athos <> d'Artagnan
D--> I mean, within a few episodes Athos told d'Artagnan about his wife.
D--> If that scene outside the burning house wasn't an impromptu feelings jam, I don't know what is.

D--> Also, my headcanon is that the Musketeers are a blueblood organisation on Alternia.
D--> Aramis is cerulean.
D--> Porthos is teal, but managed to get in on hard work etc.
D--> Athos is pretending to be an indigo-blue blood, but is in reality a violet-blooded seadweller. With his face fins torn off or otherwise removed, and wearing coloured contact lenses to conceal his eye colour.
D--> I think d'Artagnan is an an olive blood, but they'll manage to circumvent the rules somehow to let him in.

Incorrect posting, my bad :(

From: (Anonymous)
Hey guys, I don't know how to ask about this but I posted the 2nd chapter of my fill 'Not A Tragedy' on the first page of the prompts post in the wrong place lol. I posted it right the second time but as it's anon I can't deleted the incorrectly posted entry. It's under the Omega verse prompt, you'll see that chapter 2 for some reason is posted above chapter 1, chapter 2 is also posted below chapter 1 which is correct so the first one needs to be deleted. Does that make sense :S

I think you're fine just going with "dagger."

Here's a fencing guide from around that period: http://www.thearma.org/Manuals/swetnam.htm

Caveats: it's English, not French, and it's gentlemanly duelling, not the punch them in the face/kick them in the balls style the show likes. However, it's not bad for terminology etc.

The Issue of Infidelity

Date: 2014-03-18 09:19 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
I ship d'Artagnan and Constance, I love their interaction, and I want them to have fun and laugh and practice weapons and have adventures together - but I didn't want them to actually have sex.

Because much as I ship them, Constance is married, I didn't want her cheating on vows she willingly took. And for the same reason, while I'm buried in Constance feels after episode 8, I can't really hate her husband for wanting her to break it off with d'Artagnan, because she's his wife and she's cheating on him.

Similarly, I loved Aramis and Porthos seducing widows, because it was fun and everyone knew what the rules were, but I really hope Aramis doesn't actually sleep with the queen.

Re: The Issue of Infidelity

Date: 2014-03-18 10:18 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
While Constance technically willingly married Bonacieux, she didn't have a great deal of choice. She wouldn't have had the same earning potential as a man, and as a spinster wouldn't have been able to leave her family.

Bonacieux surely didn't marry her believing she did/would love him. I didn't get the impression at all that he was upset and hurt that his wife was unfaithful, rather jealous and angry that another man touched his property. After all, he wasn't protesting that he'd been faithful to her. And it's not as if Constance can divorce him.

I don't think it's fair to condemn her for trying to find happiness in a society heavily skewed against women.

Aramis/Porthos- Story through wounds.

Date: 2014-03-23 08:49 am (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
Based on Aramis' pillow talk with Adele and his bragging about Porthos' stitches, Aramis likes to know/talk about the wounds he and others have received. I was thinking it would be nice to see a story told through scars. Aramis and Porthos getting to know each other by chatting about how they got their facial scars. Porthos bragging about getting a bruise in a brawl and Aramis bragging about love-bites and scratches he's received. Neither of them talking about the new marks on their bodies because they know exactly who gave them to each other and how.

Execution-methods & background

Date: 2014-03-24 06:21 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
I do know how to start the fun discussions...

So:
Athos was about to be executed via firing-squad. D'Artagnan and Porthos would have been hanged.
Why?

My (also only patchy) knowledge of other time-periods (and countries) is that death by firing squad was somehow more honourable and seen as a true soldier's death, unlike hanging which was for everyone. Was that also true for France at that time? If yes it does explain d'Artagnan as he wasn't a Musketeer at the time and also why the ripped off Porthos' emblem/badge before.
But still: why? Porthos and Athos were both accused of cold-blooded murder totally unconnected to anything they did as soldier so where's the difference?
Is there another answer than racism? (Or plot-convenience because the writers considered on the one occasion the firing-squad and on the other the gallows more dramatic?)
Or has it to do with Athos being judged directly by the king as the matter had been brought before him?

Re: Execution-methods & background

Date: 2014-03-24 09:49 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
My impression was that firing squad wasn't a thing in France until the 20th century. Common criminals got hung, heretics got burned, nobility got beheaded with a sword (some guy tried to assassinate Richelieu, or have him assassinated, failed, and Richelieu made sure that the apprentice executioner did the beheading so it took twenty one strikes to cut his head off). They just had the firing squad in the pilot for dramatic purposes. Athos should have been hung, unless he wanted to pull rank and for a beheading. I'm not actually sure about the hanging, either. That might have been more of an English thing.

If you want to make it make sense with internal show logic (good luck!) I'd go with racism.

My favourite find to date: Nicholas Sanson's 1632 map of the post roads in France, pretty much the key transport system in 17thc France, and it's CLICKABLE. God, I love whoever made this. (http://www.bhpt.org/cartes/carte10118/TemplateWebPage.htm)
A Sense of Place: A Treatise on Prostitution in Seventeenth-Century Paris (http://www.inha.fr/colloques/document.php?id=566) Don't judge me.

hey!

I found this comm through looking for fics for The Musketeers on Ao3, i've not really used this site before.

I was just wondering if there are any more comms on this site with fanfic for the show?

(Also for Atlantis, another BBC show, if anyone knows of any!)

or just generally any fan comms for either. even on livejournal, which i've used a bit in the past (and now seems completely dead compared to back then!)

i just want more fanfic to read. and i have a worry that fanfic will dry up in the year or so it will take for the next series of the show!

Date: 2014-03-26 07:34 am (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
DW users tend to crosspost fic to AO3. Active comms are less and less common on both DW and LJ.

Fic might dry up, but having a hiatus to work on longer fic before it gets jossed can also make fic production pick up. Having a break between seasons is different from a show being over and done with.

Just reading an interview with Jason Flemyng, who plays Vadim, and came across this:

How would you describe your Musketeers character Vadim?

"He's a real proper old-school villain. It was great fun. I don't have a mustache… well, it's an invisible one that I'm allowed to tweak occasionally! I loved it and all the boys I just fell in love with. Luke Pasqualino is amazing - I'm meant to be his enemy but I didn't know whether to smack him in the face or kiss him on the lips."

1. Heh,
2. D'aww,

I've done a couple of big bangs for other fandoms before and they were fun. They also generated a lot of wonderful, long stories and some amazing art work. We have lots of talented people, both in this fandom and on this meme.

What do you think, folks? Would any one else be up for it. Has it been discussed anywhere do you know?

As one of the author anons writing longer fic on meme:

I'd like to see it happen, but hesitate to count myself in. I've organised and participated in big bangs before, and I like them, but I feel like I've been a total flake lately. I'm trying not to sign up for things anymore.

Would anyone be willing to beta a fic (gen) for me?

I would appreciate it if anyone could - nothing too big, and my grammar/punctuation is usually impeccable, so it would mostly be stylistic/characterization/plot elements.

PM me if anyone has the time - and thank you! ♥

How would one say, "What in heaven" in French?

I don't fully trust Google translate.

Unfilled prompts on delicious account?

Date: 2014-04-03 12:43 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
Is it possible to get unfilled prompts put on the delicious account? The meme is now so big it can be a struggle to find specific prompts, and it'd be a shame if ones went unfilled because of it. I think it would be really useful to writers looking to be prompted for specific pairings/kinks, as well (it also might prevent unnecessary repeated prompts).

I run the delicious account, I'm looking into it. I think it'll have to be a separate account so that new fills still appear at the top iyswim. If anyone knows a less cumbersome way to do it I'm all ears.

I'll probably post all the prompts and tag them filled or unfilled, because everyone loves multiple fills, so it'll take a little while to get up to date. I'll post a link to the new account when it's up.

What's everyone listening to?

Date: 2014-04-05 06:13 pm (UTC)
From: (Anonymous)
For those who write while listening to music.

Gratuity was written to Springsteen on perpetual repeat, especially Streets of Philadelphia and Blood Brothers.

Heir of Dust and Ruin has a wider selection, but highlights include: Richard Shindell's Confession; Cohen's One of Us Cannot be Wrong, Anthem, and If it Be Your Will; Tori Amos' cover of Famous Blue Raincoat; Tom McRae's End of the World News; Melissa Etheridge' Broken Heart Sun and This War Is Over; Cry Cry Cry's cover of Lord, I Have Made You a Place in My Heart, and Shin Seung Hun's Sorry.
